Consultation Duration in Ocean Shores: 15–30 Minutes, and How to Make the Plan Last
By On Point Hair Salon by Toni Fountain | September 18, 2026

A standard hair consultation usually takes 15–30 minutes, and that’s often enough to get clear on your goals and leave with a solid plan. If we’re talking color corrections, extensions, or a multi-step haircolor plan, it can run 45–90 minutes. I keep it straightforward and honest. I listen, I give real suggestions, and I want you walking out feeling confident and refreshed, even before you commit to the big service.
The honest consultation timeline (and what changes the clock)
People ask me all the time, “How long do consultations typically last?” Here’s the real answer: the appointment slot for my in-person Consultation is 30 minutes (starting at $70), and most routine consults fit comfortably inside that. But timing can stretch when the plan is more technical or you’ve got multiple options to compare.
15–30 minutes: haircut planning, a refresh in tone, bangs or face-framing decisions, and getting clear on maintenance so your look grows out nicely.
45–90 minutes: corrective haircolor, extension matching, or multi-step changes where we may need photos, swatches, and possibly a strand test or patch test.
A few things decide how fast we can get to a clean plan: your hair length and density, how porous or fragile your hair feels, what you’re starting with (especially if you’ve had previous haircolor), and how many options you’re choosing between. Ocean Shores’ maritime climate matters too. Sea air, humidity, and sun exposure near Point Brown Avenue NE and the north jetty can change how your color fades and how long a smooth blowout behaves. If you’re a frequent beachgoer, I build the plan with that in mind.
What actually happens during a Consultation, start to finish
If you’ve been searching “hair salons near me” and you’re trying to figure out what you’re paying for in a consultation, here’s how I run it. We start with your goal, then I look at what your hair can realistically do without compromising its condition. I’ll ask what you like about your hair now, what you don’t, and what you’re willing to maintain at home.
Real talk: a good plan is specific. If you bring one or two inspiration photos, I’ll tell you what matches your hair texture and what would fight you every morning.
Then we map the next steps. That might be a haircut that grows in beautifully, a tonal shift, a phased lightening plan, or extension color matching. If tests make sense, we talk through them on the spot. I’m also big on tools and products that help you recreate the look at home because the best haircut in the world still needs the right support between appointments.
I work with a lot of people coming in from Point Brown and North Ocean Shores, plus nearby coastal towns like Westport, Copalis Beach, Moclips, Aberdeen, and Hoquiam. If your hair gets hit with wind, salt, and hoodie season, I plan for that too.
Make consultation results last: the 8 habits that stretch your timeline
The consultation itself is short. The plan we build should carry you for weeks and, for bigger changes, sometimes months. Here are the habits that make a noticeable difference in Ocean Shores, where humidity and sea air can work against you.
- Take two quick photos before you leave. One front, one back. When you come in next time, we’re not guessing what you loved.
- Follow the product plan I recommend. I’m not here to push shelves. I suggest what supports your specific hair goals, like keeping blonde from going dull or helping curls keep their shape.
- Wash smarter, not more. Over-washing fades haircolor fast. If you’re near the beach a lot, rinsing well after salt and using the right cleanser matters.
- Heat protect every time. A flat iron without protection shortens the life of both color and a haircut because it roughs up the hair cuticle.
- Talk to me about hard-water buildup. It can make hair feel coated and make tone look off. If that’s your reality, I’ll steer you toward the right reset plan.
- If we do extensions, follow the care rules closely. Extension color matching is part of the consult, but longevity comes from brushing, washing, and product choices done the right way.
- Pick a rebooking window before you walk out. A quick check-in keeps little issues small, like tone drift or ends that start to feel dry.
- Keep notes on what you used. Shampoo, masks, styling products, and even how often you went out in the sun by the north jetty. It all shows up in the result.

Why your color or style fades early in Ocean Shores (and the simple fixes)
Most early fade isn’t mysterious. It’s usually one of these: too much hot water, the wrong shampoo, aggressive heat styling, or buildup that dulls your tone. Add in our coastal mix of humidity, sea air, and sun exposure and you can feel like your hair has a mind of its own.
My fix: I keep your maintenance plan realistic. If you want low-fuss haircolor, I’ll steer you away from anything that requires constant toning. If you want big impact, we’ll talk honestly about what it takes to keep it looking expensive.
When to rebook your Consultation, and how I keep it easy
If you’re maintaining a haircut shape, a consultation every few months can be enough, especially if we’ve already nailed what works for your texture. If you’re making changes with haircolor, planning extensions, or building toward an event, I like a check-in sooner so we stay on track and you don’t end up doing emergency fixes.
And yes, you can start the conversation virtually. If you send a couple clear photos and your inspiration pics, I can often tell you what’s realistic and what needs an in-person look. In-person is still best for feel, porosity, and exact matching, especially for extensions.
